Take the payment and close the bill

Cash, UPI, card, bank transfer, cheque, credit or wallet — and what Paid really means.

Steps

  1. In the cart click Checkout. The payment panel opens with the full bill amount already in Amount.
  2. Pick the method: Cash, UPI, Card, Bank Transfer, Cheque or Credit. To use the customer's wallet, tick Use wallet balance.
  3. For UPI, card, bank transfer or cheque also fill Transaction/Ref No. and choose the Bank Account that receives the money.
  4. To take part now and the rest later, choose Credit, type what you received in Amount, set the Credit Due Date and choose Advance received by.
  5. Click Review & Pay, tick every box, then Confirm & Pay. With that confirmation switched off the button pays in one tap and reads Pay with the amount on it.
  6. The invoice opens. Anything still owed shows there as Balance Payable.

Good to know

Cash, UPI, card and bank transfer must settle the bill in full — the Amount box is locked for them. Only Credit takes part of the money now and records when the rest is due.
A Cheque payment stays pending until you clear the cheque, so the bill does not read Paid yet. Walk-in sales cannot be paid by cheque, and an advance on a credit bill cannot be a cheque either.
The wallet is used only when you tick Use wallet balance. Enough balance pays the whole bill; if short, it pays its part and the method you pick takes the rest in the same step.

Words used

WordMeaning
PaidMoney actually received covers the whole bill. Nothing is left to collect on it.
PartialSome money has come in and the rest is still due.
Credit / Credit (Partial)The bill was sold on credit. Credit (Partial) means an advance was taken and the balance carries a due date.
PendingNothing has been received against the bill yet.
No valueThe bill carries no amount at all. It is empty, not paid.
Advance received byThe tender the advance actually arrived by — cash, UPI, card or bank transfer. It is asked for only when an advance is being taken.

The bill is marked Paid from what was really received, not from what was typed in the box. A credit sale writes a credit line of 0.00 whose only job is to carry the due date, so a credit bill with an advance shows the advance as the received money and the balance as still due.
